Shanghai: the food

We began almost every day with a trip to Paris Baguette, a coffee shop.  We really liked it because it had air conditioning, wi-fi, and a variety of chocolate croissants.
Our most adventurous meal was at a cafeteria-style place.  Here is a sample of what was available.
When we all sat down with our trays, we discovered that Tim picked up a plate of escargot!  We could hardly believe it, but he ate it all.
Our most entertaining/awkward meal was at a place with an acrylic divider between the restaurant and the alley behind.  A kid (teenager?) stared at Adam so intently it even drew remarks from other diners.  We tried to get a photo of him staring, but he 'lost interest' every time Adam pulled out the camera.
Finally, success:
In my opinion, the best meals were the last two nights.  First, we went to a restaurant at a shopping area/tourist trap that used to be Shanghai's international district.  Since I read When We Were Orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro (which was set in pre-war Shanghai) shortly before our trip, it made the whole place feel a bit cinematic.
We had our last meal in Shanghai to celebrate my mother's birthday, which was fitting because the whole trip was her idea.  It was at a restaurant with a beautiful view of the skyline.
