Hiking Heather Lake

We went hiking again yesterday.  This time we went to Heather Lake, which is about an hour from home.  Here we are at the beginning of a heavily-documented hike.  Nemo has no idea how often he'll have to wait for us while we stop to take pictures.

The trail was very wet since snow from the top of the mountain is still melting.  We had to cross several small streams on the hike, which was no problem for Nemo, but a bit more delicate for us.

It was especially hard for me since my shoes weren't waterproof like Adam's, which is the only reason I lagged behind.

The trail winds through a second-growth forest, but you can still see where older trees were cut.  Here, a younger tree takes advantage of the huge stump left by the loggers.

Eventually we climbed high enough to get to the snow, which Nemo appreciated.

In fact, Nemo went kind of crazy when he recognized the snow.  We watched as he lept and rolled around.  It went on for so long, we pulled out our cameras and shot some movies.  Here they are, sloppily consolidated in iMovie and set to music ("Angel in the Snow" by Elliott Smith).

Finally, the trail ended at beautiful Heather Lake.

Overall, we were very satisfied with the hike and resolved to explore more hikes as the weather turns warmer.
